Choosing a production partner is one of the most important decisions a brand will make when entering entertainment. Here is how to evaluate partners.

Look for entertainment experience, not just video production

There is a meaningful difference between a company that makes corporate videos and one that makes entertainment. When evaluating partners, look at their body of work. Have they produced series or films distributed on real platforms and watched by real audiences?

Understand their creative philosophy

Ask how they approach brand integration. Red flags include promises of prominent brand featuring and product shot guarantees. Green flags include story-first language and organic integration philosophy.

Ask about distribution

A finished show that nobody sees is a failed investment. Ask where they see the content living, whether they have platform relationships, and how they approach audience building.

Evaluate deal structure transparency

Ownership, rights, deliverables, revenue sharing, and creative approval should all be clearly defined before production begins. If a partner is vague about any of these, consider it a warning sign.

Check operational capacity

Can they deliver? Look for a full-time team, in-house post-production, realistic timelines with milestones, and proper insurance and legal structures. A partner with infrastructure is more reliable than a one-person shop assembling contractors.

The strategy call test

A good partner will ask thoughtful questions about your brand, be honest about whether entertainment is the right move, offer a clear perspective on format and budget, and not push you toward a decision. If the first conversation feels like a sales pitch, keep looking.
